The more pages your book has, the more paper disappears into the spine. KDP's minimums:

Which trim size should I choose?
6×9 inches is the most common size for novels and non-fiction. 5×8 or 5.5×8.5 suits shorter fiction and poetry, and 8.5×11 suits workbooks and cookbooks. Tell us your genre and we'll recommend one.
Can you use the same file for paperback and hardcover?
No. KDP needs a separate interior for each, because hardcover has its own trim sizes, page range and gutter. We build both from one layout so they match.
Do you design the cover too?
Yes. A paperback cover is one PDF with the back, spine and front, sized to your exact page count. See book cover design, or add it in the order form.
What if KDP's previewer shows an error?
